MDPen Microneedling in Fredericksburg, VA
To understand the MDPen, you have to know a bit about what microneedling is and how it is performed. Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that involves creating a series of tiny wounds with small needles in order to trigger your body’s natural healing process.
One of the benefits of that healing process is an abundance of collagen being flooded to the targeted area. This process — often referred to as collagen induction therapy or cellular regeneration — has been perfected by modern microneedling treatments to help smooth signs of aging and other textural issues throughout the face.
What Is the MDPen?
The MDPen is the next advancement in microneedling procedures. Depending on the specific model being used, it can come equipped with 12 large or 160 small needles for restoration or refining, respectfully.
While it only weighs around .176 pounds, it can still achieve 11,000 RPMs penetrating precisely between .25 mm and 2.75 mm deep — the perfect range of depth to achieve noticeable improvements in your appearance.
The MDPen helps our medical professionals achieve a much more consistent and drastic result by perfecting the microneedling process and compacting cutting-edge technology into a small medical device.
Why Do We Need the MDPen?
We know that the MDPen stimulates collagen and other growth factors in the skin, but why are those important to the way we look?
As it turns out, collagen is the most essential protein for maintaining a youthful appearance. Unfortunately, as we get older, our body’s natural production of this protein begins to decline. It is expected that anyone over the age of 20 loses 1% of their collagen production every year.
This degradation is what causes many people to develop fine lines and wrinkles throughout the face. Microneedling with the MDPen can replace the proteins that aging takes away — in fact, it is one of the only safe and reliable methods of doing so.
But it’s not just about fine lines and wrinkles, either. In many cases, poor skin texture or discoloration is the primary concern in a facial appearance. Stimulating the natural healing process can correct these imperfections, whether caused by acne or genetics.
What Does the MDPen Treat?
The MDPen can treat a variety of skin conditions, including:
- Surgical scarring
- Acne scarring
- Trauma scarring
- Burns
- Fine lines
- Wrinkles
- Enlarged pores
- Stretch marks
- Poor skin texture
- Hyperpigmentation
- Sunspots
- Other discoloration
- Dull or dead skin
- Rosacea
Even if you do not see your specific concern listed, you may still be a candidate for MDPen treatment. You can reach out to our office in Fredericksburg, VA, to schedule a consultation and learn if MDPen is right for you.
Even if you are not well suited for the MDPen, our office will likely be able to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.
Am I a Candidate for the MDPen?
Candidates for MDPen are those who:
- Have realistic expectations for what their procedures can achieve
- Are free from underlying health conditions that can add additional risks
- Do not excessively drink, smoke or use drugs (can cause poor healing)
- Are looking to improve on signs of aging or other cosmetic facial concerns
Scheduling a consultation with our office is the only way to know for sure if MDPen is right for you. We are looking forward to being a trusted resource for you through this process.
How Should I Prepare for MDPen Treatment?
Since the MDPen is nonsurgical and minimally invasive, there is very little preparation you need to make before your treatment is performed. During your consultation, Dr. Palmer will conduct a thorough examination of your condition, listen to your aesthetic goals and review your medical history.
If anything during this process requires you to make additional preparation, you will be informed early on in the process. If you do receive preprocedural instructions, such as quitting tobacco or alcohol, it is vital that you follow them to ensure a safe and effective recovery that remains quick and virtually painless.
What Should I Expect from an MDPen Procedure?
The procedure will largely depend on the specifics of your treatment, like what symptoms you are having treated and the extent of the correction being performed. While it can be customized to perfectly fit your needs, you can expect a general process to follow the following steps:
- Cleaning — The treated area will be thoroughly cleaned to avoid infection.
- Numbing — A topical numbing agent will be applied to maximize your comfort.
- Needling — A medical professional will move the MDPen across your targeted areas.
- Cleaning — Your face will be cleaned again after the procedure to further avoid infection.
- Completion — Your team member will complete your treatment and send you to recovery.
The entire process is highly routine and only takes about 30 minutes to complete, more than enough time to make it to our office and back during a lunch-hour break.
What Should I Expect During MDPen Recovery?
Most patients experience extremely mild redness, soreness, bleeding, swelling, pain or discomfort immediately after the procedure. Over-the-counter medication is enough to help calm some of these symptoms, and our office can give you strategies to improve your recovery situation.
Most side effects have entirely subsided after two days of recovery, but the healing in the deeper layers of the skin will continue to happen for up to two months, continually improving your aged or textured appearance.
Many of our patients decide to go back to work on the same day as their treatment. While this is possible, we recommend planning to have the option to take time off just in case you decide you would rather not head into your workplace with reddened skin.
What Kind of Results Can I Expect from MDPen?
The results of your MDPen treatment can last up to 12 weeks for some patients, but it is very common for this treatment to last around eight weeks as well. During this time, you will notice a significant improvement in wrinkling and other facial blemishing and will likely feel a lot more confident in your appearance.
Before your results begin to fade, we recommend setting up a regular MDPen treatment plan to avoid losing all the progress that was made in the last few months. Your face will be working hard to smoother over those wrinkles and rewrite its natural appearance.
For many people, that treatment can be completed every six or eight weeks, but if you respond very well to the procedure, you may be able to wait 12 weeks before scheduling a follow-up appointment. While the results are not permanent, the affordability of MDPen to other competitors makes having treatments regularly performed much easier to digest.
You may also be given a list of instructions to follow after your procedure is performed. All of the directions we give you aim to provide you with the best possible results, so following them will be the best way for you to achieve your aesthetic goals.
Can I Combine My MDPen Treatment with Other Procedures?
MDPen can be combined with virtually any treatment since it is minimally invasive and does not require a lengthy recovery period. Here are some of the most common procedures that Surgical Arts of Virginia combines MDPen with:
Surgical Combinations
Nonsurgical Combinations
